African Exploration Showcase
AES aims to provide an opportunity for professionals in the industry to be informed about new African exploration projects and current developments. It is an ideal opportunity to learn more about deposits that could potentially add significant economic value to the continent's pipeline. Our speakers are from major and junior mining companies, and from large consulting companies to independents, which should ensure an interesting event.

Data Management and Sampling QAQC
Every resource estimate, exploration target and mining decision is only as good as the data behind it, and the GSSA's Data Management and Sampling QAQC course puts that data at the centre. It shows participants how to capture geological and assay data correctly at the source, validate it before it enters the database, and store it securely so that it stays consistent, traceable and auditable. Topics include structuring a geological database, managing drillhole, sampling and laboratory data from the field to the final dataset, and using backups, version control and audit trails to protect data integrity. Sampling and QAQC feed into this as the checks that prove the data can be trusted, using blanks, duplicates and certified reference materials. The course also links good data management to the reporting standards investors and auditors expect. It suits exploration and mine geologists, database managers, geochemists, and students and early-career geoscientists.
CPD Workshop
This on-line (ZOOM) workshop looks at what CPD is and why it is important. It covers the SACNASP system for CPD, what you can claim and how many points, as well as how to log your points directly on the SACNASP website.
Financial Literacy for Geoscientists
Join us for an introduction to financial literacy as applicable to exploration/mining budgets and valuations. Many geoscientists do not study accountancy and/or economics in their university curricula but find themselves having to read financial statements and contribute to Discounted Cash Flow models. This workshop will not make you an accountant, but it will introduce you to the terminologies and principles that you will need to better muddle through financial models.

3D Geological Modelling
Recent trends in mining and exploration are set to further accelerate the demand and growth of 3D geological modelling software. These trends include the inevitable increase in cost per ton of resource and global economic slowdowns. These require companies to constantly cost-cut during extraction and to improve resource delineation. Add to this the trend that new discoveries are deeper and in more structurally-complex setting, and it's apparent that a great deal of attention needs to be focused on getting the geometry of a deposit, as early as possible in the exploration and mining value chain, correct.
